BBQ Cheese Crusted Steak

After trying this steak in Italy, we had to create our own version! This steak is crunchy and delicious. The cheese just makes it! 

This is quick and so easy to make for a crowd! Our entire family loves it! 

If you don’t have a grill, don’t stress. You can still enjoy this delicious meal without one. You can broil it right in your oven. It only needs to broil for 3-5 minutes. Make sure you have your rack near the top.  Bake the first side for about 3 minutes, and then flip. Then watch the steaks carefully because they will only need another couple minutes. You don’t want to burn your cheese! 

We love to serve the steaks with a salad, linguine, rice, or grilled lemon potatoes. Makes for such a delicious meal!

Whether you are making this steak on the grill, or in the oven, you won’t be disappointed! It is quick and delicious. Plus, it only uses ingredients you most likely already have at home. Enjoy!


BBQ Cheese Crusted Steak

  • 1 1/2 lbs Top Sirloin 4 pieces cut 1/4 inch thick
  • 1/3 cup olive oil
  • 1 1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
  • 1 1/4 cup Romano cheese grated
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1/4 tsp French salt
  • 1/4 tsp fresh ground black pepper


  • Let the meat come to room temperature for 30 minutes.
  • Measure the olive oil into a pie pan. In another pie pan, mix the bread crumbs, cheese, basil, and salt and pepper together.
  • Dip each piece of meat into the olive oil, then into the bread crumbs and cheese mixture. Use your fingers to pat down the mixture so it will stay on as much as possible. Place each piece on a platter.
  • Prepare the grill. Turn the heat up to high. Fold a paper towel into a square and pour olive oil onto the paper towel. Use your tongs to run the oil over the grill. Place the breaded steaks onto the hot grill and grill 5 min per side. Serve immediately.
